The Joe Foss Institute Scholarship Program

Investing in America, Inspiring Patriotism

"I'm proud to be an American. I'm humbled to have been able to serve this great country and fight for its matchless Constitution!" - Gen. Joe Foss

scholarshipAnyone who knew Joe Foss, or who is familiar with his life, knows that Joe invested his life in the service of others and in the service of this country. His words above reflect the values by which he lived.

Yet today, we live in an era in which many believe that these sorts of values are less common than they have been at any point in our nation's history.

Our work inspires our youth---our nation's future leaders--to embrace these values, to take pride in our country, and to gain a passion to help make America all it can be. One way we do this is through our Scholarship Essay Contests.

We have developed a series of nationwide scholarship contests that ask the youth of America to take some time to ponder what the phrase "American values" means; to ponder what our freedoms cost; and to ponder what it means to be an American. In each contest, we invite high school students (grades 9-12) to submit essays based on a selected theme. The essays are judged and scored, and a scholarship is awarded to the student whose essay best meets the criteria established at the outset of the competition.
