The Desert Outdoor Center located at Arizona's own Lake Pleasant is one of several summer campsites for the Phoenix-Metro Boy Scouts.

This year's scouts truly enjoyed the water and fighting the 100+ degree temperatures as they learned how to water ski, wakeboard, kayak, sail, canoe, and fish. While beating the heat local scouts also earned merit badges while inside the air-conditioned facilities. When they were not in the water scouts participated in over 30 classes including reptile and amphibian studies, geology, archeology, and cooking to name just a few. Each class was intended to assist the scouts complete their qualifications towards certifications.
This year the Joe Foss Institute played a key role in providing veteran speakers who each week presented to scouts curriculum about the US Constitution, their roles as citizens, flag etiquette, and the importance of being a proud patriot within the community.
Additionally, JFI veterans helped to train scouts in the proper ceremonial flag handling procedures, while also participating in numerous formal raising and lowering ceremonies. The Institute would like to personally thank the Boy Scouts for having JFI as part of their instructional team and this wonderful camp!
