Welcome to the brand new Joe Foss Institute blog!
The purpose of this blog is to help promote and teach patriotism, public service, integrity, and an appreciation for America’s freedoms. The blog will contain useful information for anybody interested in our work—whether that’s a military veteran looking for volunteer opportunities, teachers looking for resources to share with their students, or students interested in scholarship opportunities or in learning about America's freedoms.
On this blog (and during our presentations in schools) we will provide information that we think will help inspire students, and will provide educational resources related to the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, patriotism, and the sacrifices that have been made for our freedoms.
We do not promote any political, religious or military organization or agenda.
The Joe Foss Institute helps students understand the importance of being a patriot as well as a dedicated citizen in our country. 650,000 students have been reached to date, and our goal is to connect with 1,000,000 students annually. We offer a Hays C. Kirby Memorial Essay Contest each year which awards a $5000 scholarship to the winner along with $500 to the school attended, and $250 to the class. We also offer several other similar scholarships throughout the course of the year. By bringing veterans into classrooms, we bring together students, teachers, and veterans in an effort to reignite a sense of national pride and civic responsibility in our future leaders.
This blog is for anyone who loves America. Our hope is to attract veterans who are willing to volunteer, schools who are interested in bringing one of our presentations, and teachers searching for resources to be used in the classroom. We look forward to your additions to our blog because liberty matters and freedom is never free.
