Scholarship Essay Contest
When are Joe Foss Institute Essay Contests Held? The answer this question has varied slightly over the course of JFI's history, but our current plan (and we reserve the right to change this) is to run three contests annually: the Hays C. Kirby Memorial Scholarship Essay Contest in the spring; the Independence Day Scholarship Essay Contest that concludes in the summer; and the Veterans Day Scholarship Essay Contest in the fall. The best way to stay up to date is to subscribe to our eNewsletter, The Beacon, or to visit our site often. Return to top ^

Why is there such a strong emphasis on following the guidelines precisely?
Despite the variety of ways we emphasize the importance of following the guidelines, we receive a number of entries for each of our scholarship essay contests in which students still fail to follow them. It would be unfair for us to subjectively determine whether a failure to comply with the guidelines was "significant" or "insignificant," so we believe that the most fair solution (especially for those who DID follow them correctly) is to reject entries that do not comply to all guidelines.
